Trash to Treasure Charity Auction & a Challenge

It's that time of year again --- our annual Trash to Treasure Charity Auction is coming up soon! Specifically, it will be held on Friday, August 28. This will be the 6th year the St. Charles Women in Business have sponsored this auction. It all started out as a way to raise a few dollars for charity and have some fun in the process. In a few short years it has turned into a whole bunch of fun and we've raised several thousand dollars for breast cancer research.

It all started in 2004 ago when we, the Women in Business, wanted to donate to a charity as a group. Since several of us liked trash to treasure projects, we decided to recycle, reuse and repurpose some 'junk' and then auction our creations to raise money. And since several of us are breast cancer survivors, we decided to donate our money to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation.

Our Trash to Treasure Auction and Wine Tasting Event, held during Gladiolus Days the last week in August, has become quite popular. Here are pictures and the newspaper story from our 4th auction in 2007. Here is some of what I donated to the auction last year. And here is auction 2008, including a slide show of auction items. (See if you can find Pink Floyd in the slide show.)

This year Fjerda Pfarkel (Sharon) has issued a challenge to junker friends and bloggers outside our immediate area. Last year we raised close to $6000 in our 3 hour auction. How awesome!!! This year, with a little help from some of you creative junkers out there, we hope to do even better! Read all about Sharon's challenge on her blog, Junk {re}defined. We would be honored to have you donate something to our auction.

Mark your calendars for the 6th Annual Women in Business Trash to Treasure Charity Auction and Wine Tasting Event, held on the south lawn of the Victorian Lace Inn, 1512 Whitewater Avenue, St. Charles, MN. We'd really be thrilled if you could actually come to the auction in person!! Wine tasting and auction preview start at 4:30 with music by the Bandanas, and the live auction begins at 6:00 pm.

I've made this plea many times before and I'll say it again. Please open your heart and open your wallet. Bid like you have never bid before. Bid on something even if you don't want it. We don't make you take it home -- we'll just save it and sell it again next year!

So bring your friends, bring your checkbook, bring your friends' checkbooks!
Because it is all about the cure.

Marge, the survivor Gran
