T2T Auction -- the BIG Day!

Friday morning we gathered to set up tables and chairs

and arrange all the treasures in the gorgeous, big white tent.

'Mingos on parade to welcome our guests.

At 4:30 the wine tasting began with Jan once
again bringing some fine wines from Good Sport.
The pomegranate one was especially nice!

And while our guests sampled wines and munchies,
the Bandanas -- sisters Rosie, Bev & Barb -- entertained.

The auction began a bit after 6:00, the rain stayed away
and I became too wrapped up in the bidding
excitement to take any more pictures!

I'll check with Sharon tomorrow and we'll figure out the total amount we have to donate to Komen for the Cure. I'm hoping we can match last year's total, but I have a feeling the amount will be down somewhat. The economy and the fire that destroyed North Star Foods have been hard on the finances of many of our local people. On a lighter note, though, we had new guests from Mantorville, Kasson, Chatfield, Plainview and Rochester, and some of them commented that they would return next year and bring along a lot of friends! And that's a real good thing!

The Tent Has Arrived!

It's not pretty now, but by tomorrow afternoon, this tent will be transformed into a wonderland of unique treasures all ready to go home with the highest bidder. At 4:30 there will be live music by the Bandanas and appetizers with wine tasting courtesy of Jan and Good Sport Bar & Grill. Then at 6:00 the auction will start. It sounds like the weather will cooperate with temps in the mid 70s and only a slight chance of rain. Ideal for socializing and supporting a good cause. Please come join us if you can!

A Couple More Treasures for the Auction

A table found curbside during city-wide clean up in St. Charles last May. A little paint, a little distressing, and it's ready for the auction.

Another 100 year old window frame missing its glass. Now adorned with an autumn grapevine wreath and garden tools hung on antique square nails.

How About Bidding on These?

Another sign holder from the old Henry's Variety Store in St. Charles. Sheet music background with Live, Laugh Love -- in Scrabble and Word Search letters! Accented with a sassy black tassel on a large vintage black button and three smaller vintage black buttons.

Old red window frame minus the glass but with wire mesh screen, garden rake and fork and a trike tire wreath.

Pitchfork head with fall florals. Be careful with this one!

This black rack with hooks was originally a fan belt display. A few of the hooks were removed and a door knob and two smaller cabinet door knobs were added. Hang inside the back door for coats, caps, scarves, dog leash, ...

Cute, sturdy, solid wood high chair, found curbside in St. Charles on city-wide clean up day, now all decked out for fall with an oak leaf garland and an autumn grapevine wreath. The bonus is that it's still a usable high chair!

Old white window screen with the just the right amount of chippy shabbiness. Wouldn't this be a cute accent in - or on the way to - your flower garden!

The Women in Business have an outstanding evening in store for you on Friday, August 28th during Gladiolus Days when we host the 6th Annual Trash to Treasure Charity Auction. Wine tasting and live music at 4:30 p.m. with the live auction starting at 6:00. A great alternative to the downtown beer tent and street dance! And while you are having an enjoyable evening, you will be helping to raise money to fund breast cancer research. It doesn't get any better than this!

More pictures to come ...

More Trash to Treasure Auction Items

Here are a few more things I have made for the Trash to Treasure auction.

Perky potted posies in a cool canning jar wire rack.

Snowman painted on an old window screen.

Sheet music background, vintage buttons,
vintage photo mat and frame with
ENJOY Scrabble letters all mounted
in a sign holder from the old
Henry's Variety Store in St. Charles.

Sweet little angel made from a chair spring, a washer,
half a rusty candle pan and a little wire halo.

The auction is Friday at 6:00 with wine tasting and preview of auction items starting at 4:30. I have more -- just need to take a few more pictures. Oh, and wait til you see what our junkin' friends sent home with us after we met up at Gold Rush in Oronoco last weekend. You will love all of it!! But that is a post of it's own. Stay tuned!

Freelance writer Sandy Erdman had a nice article in the Rochester Post Bulletin a day or so ago about our upcoming auction. You can read it here.

Sharon, owner of the Victorian Lace Inn where the auction is held, told me today of several exciting items that have been donated in recent days. She said the newest was something donated by a man from Lanesboro who lost his wife to breast cancer. He said he thought she would like the idea of him donating to our auction. What a thoughtful way to honor her. That's just one example of the touching stories that keep us doing this year after year.

Because it is all about the cure.
