The phone rang early enough on the morning of Feb 15 that I knew there was something wrong before I said hello. It was my sister telling me Mom had a heart attack and was being helicoptered from the ER in Winona to St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. The ER doctor said, "Grave, very grave."
Now less than 2 weeks later, she is just about to be dismissed. Unbelievable. Even the doctors at St. Mary's didn't think she would make it. Of course, they didn't admit that to us until 8 days later when she was off the vent and talking to us.
What an amazing stretch of days this has been. We owe so much to the phenomenal hospital staff. There are no others like them. People come to the Mayo Clinic from all over the world. We are fortunate to have them right here in our backyard. They gave us back our mom. We are forever grateful.
