Getting Ready for JUNKMARKET Under Glass

No time for lots of words!  Busy, busy, busy playing with fabric, yarn, paper, glue, wood and paint.  JUNKMARKET Under Glass is less than three weeks away!  Here's a little look at a few of my creations from yesterday.

With the addition of a zipper and handle, a canvas bag that held lead shot became a wine tote.

A fabric 10# sugar sack became a tote for two bottles of wine.  Sometimes you just have to take more than one bottle to a party!!

The blue band looks like denim but is actually flannel.  The handles really are demin -- they are seams from jeans!

I'll be back in a few days with more pictures of what else you can expect in my booth at JUNKMARKET Under Glass.

Ta-da ----- Burlap Tree Skirt!

Well, the burlap feed sack Christmas tree skirt is finished!  This will go under the tree that is going to be decorated with the little burlap treat bags I made earlier.

My friend Carol gave me two identical feed sacks for this project.

After sewing them together and adding a little more plain g burlap to make a square, I cut a big circle.

Next, I made a cut from edge to the center and cut a small circle out of the middle for the tree trunk.

A fringe around the perimeter finished the project.  Now I just need to let Carol know it is done!

I am linking to these parties.

More Burlap Projects

Hello friends!  I'm back from a blog vacation and I'm ready for show and tell!

A while back, my junker friend Carol asked me to make little bags out of a vintage burlap sack to be used as Christmas tree ornaments.  They are for a tree will be part of the annual Festival of Trees at the Mayo Civic Center in Rochester, MN.

The theme of Carol’s tree (sponsored by her employer) is vintage-reuse-repurpose – just what I would expect from a good junker!  The bags might be used to hold treats of some sort.  Other ornies for her tree include small wheels and sandbakkel (pastry) tins.  I am anxious to see what else she uses!
The prototype.

Simple to make: cut a rectangle about 5 x 10” and pull a few threads on each 5” side to make a fringe.  This will be the top of the bag. Fold in half with right sides together, zigzag the sides and turn right side out.  Cut about 6” of wire, poke it through the seam near the top of the bag, twist and do the same on the other side.

The finished bags are about 4" x 5” and the handle adds another 2.5” to the overall height.

My next task is to make a no frills-no ruffles-very plain tree skirt from a couple other vintage burlap sacks.  I'll show you when it is finished!
It's Burlap Week at Whisper Wood Cottage and I'm joining in the fun.  Go check it out!

I have made a lot of things with burlap and will try to post a few new projects before the end of the week.  Here are links to a few older posts about burlap projects if you care to take a look.

JUNKMARKET Under Glass Starts Wednesday!

Hard to believe that JUNKMARKET Under Glass is almost here!  I got a look at my booth spaced last Saturday, so I have a pretty good idea of how to stage my space.  Tomorrow I pack up the van with all sorts of sweet stuff and good junk, then I hit the road bright and early Wednesday morning.  Here is a small sample of what I have been creating for this special event.

Pillows galore! This is just a small sample of the mountain of pillows I have made.

Bunches of signs in all shapes and sizes!

A real variety of good junk!

Small purses to hold your phone, ID, keys and cash,

or to hold your name badge when you are at a conference or other event.

I hope to see you in Long Lake at JUNKMARKET Under Glass!  This is truly an event you don't want to miss.
